Carnival Jubilee

Carnival Jubilee is the Excel-class ship built for Galveston — the Texas and South-Central US market gets its own mega-ship

Carnival Jubilee entered service in 2023 as the third ship in the Excel class, following Mardi Gras (2021) and Celebration (2022). At approximately 6,500 guests and 183,521 GT, Jubilee is among the largest cruise ships in the world and the largest ship to homeport year-round in Galveston, Texas. Like its Excel-class siblings, Jubilee is organized around themed neighborhoods and carries BOLT — the shipboard roller coaster that runs on the upper deck. The Galveston homeport makes the full Excel-class experience available to the Texas market without a flight.

The Excel-class three-ship programme positioned each ship at a flagship homeport: Mardi Gras at Port Canaveral for Florida, Celebration in Miami, Jubilee at Galveston for the Gulf South. The commercial logic is straightforward — Galveston is one of the busiest cruise ports in the United States and serves a dense population base across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana that drives rather than flies to the port. Putting an Excel-class ship there ensures the largest Carnival ships are accessible without a cross-country flight.

Jubilee's six-zone configuration mirrors the Excel-class template with Galveston-specific flavour. Jubilee's zones include The Gateway, Summer Landing, La Piazza, 820 Biscayne, Celebration Central, and The Lido — the last of which is the Excel-class's outdoor expansion of the traditional lido deck concept with more covered seating, bar access, and a direct connection to the WaterWorks park. The zone design creates a ship that reads as multiple destinations rather than one large generic vessel.

BOLT is the headline attraction — the electric individual-vehicle roller coaster that runs on the upper deck above the ship's superstructure. Riders control speed within a safety range; the coaster operates in rain-free conditions during sea days. Lines run long on sea days; the Carnival app allows virtual queue entry from other parts of the ship. The coaster is included in the fare.

For Texas-based cruisers, Jubilee's significance is practical: for the first time, the full Excel-class experience — nine specialty dining venues, three main dining rooms across three zones, BOLT, a full WaterWorks park, SkyZone trampoline park, SportSquare activity complex — is accessible by car. Western Caribbean itineraries from Galveston (Cozumel, Roatan, Mahogany Bay, Belize, Costa Maya) are well-calibrated for seven-night formats and suit the ship's scale.
