Symphony of the Seas
Symphony of the Seas is the fourth Oasis-class ship — the neighborhood concept with laser tag, more entertainment, and 6,680 guests
Symphony of the Seas (2018) is the fourth Oasis-class Royal Caribbean ship and was the largest cruise ship in the world at launch. At approximately 6,680 guests, Symphony carries the Oasis-class seven-neighborhood concept — Central Park, Boardwalk, Royal Promenade, Pool and Sports Zone, Youth Zone, Entertainment Place, and Vitality Spa — with additions that distinguish it from its predecessors: laser tag (Battle for Planet Z), a dedicated escape room, Sugar Beach specialty restaurant, and The Perfect Storm waterslides alongside the earlier class's amenities. Symphony operates Caribbean itineraries.
Symphony of the Seas arrived in 2018 as Oasis-class version four, with a brief to add entertainment programming that the previous three ships had demonstrated a market for. The core seven-neighborhood structure is unchanged: Central Park with its real trees and flowering plants, the Boardwalk with its AquaTheater and carousel, the Royal Promenade running four decks high with bars and shops, and the Youth Zone with its children's programming infrastructure. What changed is the layer of activity options above that foundation.
Battle for Planet Z is the laser tag installation in the Sports Zone — a full themed laser tag arena with team play on multiple levels. It operates on a reservation basis, runs through sea days and select port days, and occupies a permanent space rather than the improvised versions that some ships set up temporarily. The dedicated physical space is the differentiator from how other ships approach the concept. The escape room — a fully designed narrative puzzle experience — follows the same logic: a permanent installation with a running story rather than a portable kit.
The AquaTheater's dive show, Central Park's 150 Central Park restaurant, and the Ultimate Abyss dry slide are carried over from earlier Oasis-class ships. Sugar Beach — a candy-themed restaurant — was added to Symphony and subsequently appeared on other ships in the fleet. Broadway entertainment on Symphony has included Hamilton and Hairspray, which represent the top licensing tier for cruise ship entertainment programming.
Symphony's specialty dining program covers the Oasis-class breadth: Wonderland (avant-garde tasting menu), Chops Grille steakhouse, Jamie's Italian, Izumi, 150 Central Park, and more. The dining scope on an Oasis-class ship exceeds what any other class in the Royal Caribbean fleet offers; the breadth reflects the ship's scale and the revenue structure of a 6,680-guest sailing.
The guest who fits Symphony of the Seas: families who want the maximum activity and entertainment catalog in the Royal Caribbean fleet, including the additions that Symphony made to the Oasis-class template. Guests who want the Oasis-class experience with the most current entertainment lineup. The honest note: at 6,680 guests, Symphony is the size where the ship becomes the destination. Guests whose primary interest is the Caribbean port experience rather than the ship experience itself may find the scale works against their priorities.
