Silver Cloud launched in 1994 as a classic Silversea ultra-luxury ocean ship, then underwent a complete transformation in 2017 to become the line''s first dedicated expedition vessel. Now carrying 254 guests (down from 296) with an ice-hardened hull rated for Polar Class 7 operations, Silver Cloud calls at Antarctica, the High Arctic, Amazon tributaries, and Galápagos — destinations that larger ships cannot reach. Silversea''s all-inclusive model — accommodation, excursions, drinks, crew gratuities — applies here, making the per-day cost transparent and the experience genuinely all-in.
The 2017 transformation was thorough. Silver Cloud''s hull was strengthened to Polar Class 7 specification — meaning she can navigate first-year sea ice and manage the Drake Passage and Northwest Passage in expedition season. The expedition deck was built out with a fleet of Zodiac inflatable boats, kayaks, and a glass-bottom submersible. The Expedition Operations Center became the ship''s nerve center, where the expedition team briefs guests before each landing and debrief after.
